A bit of recollection and the departed.

Let me be firm when I apologize to anyone from my past that I am randomly adding on myspace or facebook. I have been feeling very, lets just say ’sentimental’ lately here in California. Don’t get me wrong, things are great here. But, as anyone that has lived on the East Coast will tell you, it grows on you.

Anyways, I went out tonight with my boss and saw ‘The Departed’. What a fucking great flick this was. Matt Damon plays this crooked Massachusetts state trooper, Leonardo DiCaprio plays the undercover trooper that is the informant Matt Damon’s character ends up trying to hunt down, Jack Nicholson is the gang boss that is linked to Matt Damon’s character and has DiCaprio’s character working for him, Mark Wahlberg plays the tough (dirty) sargent, Martin Sheen holds a clinching role near the ending, Alec Baldwin plays his normal mean, italian personality , Anthony Anderson is great as one of the tech/ops guys (you usually see him as the fat loud black guy in most flicks) , Vera Farmiga was hot as hell playing the girlfriend of Matt Damon’s character and the split psychiatrist. She has a great twist at the end (oh, and lets not forget to mention she gets almost naked).

This movie has action from the beginning all the way to the end. At nearly two and a half hours, your mind is racing through the whole thing. The setting is in downtown and south Boston, for anyone that has been there, you will find yourself recognizing most sites, as well as much of the lingo. It is a phenominal, right in your face, edge of the seat crime drama/action flick. I would categorize it as Resevoir Dogs meets Mystic River meets the Godfather. There are tons of scenes where you’re sitting there figuring things out for yourself (they’re not explained for you in the movie, there is no commentary). And the next second you’re seeing someone get their fucking brains blown out. Hands down, I WILL own 2 copies of this when it hits DVD. I can only hope that it will before Christmas.
